Tools to diagnose camera, mic, and connection issues

Depending on the issue reported by the learner, we use one of the following diagnostic tools to verify webcam, microphone, and network functionality.

Note: Asking the learner to go through external testing tools is not an ideal option. These tests may be confusing or stressful, especially if they’re not technically confident. Only suggest these tools if:

  • The issue cannot be diagnosed based on symptoms, logs, or user description/screenshot;

  • You need to confirm a hardware or connection issue.

Tools

  1. Webcam Test – Online Mic Test
Use when the issue is related only to the webcam. It quickly checks whether the camera is connected, accessible, and functioning.

  2. Microphone Test – Online Mic Test
Use when the issue is related only to the microphone. It verifies if the mic is capturing audio correctly.

  3. WebRTC Test – Webcasts
Use when the issue is more complex, especially for live audio/video communication. This tool checks:

    • WebRTC connection

    • Audio/video streaming

    • Network conditions

    • Media flow and peer connection status

How to match error messages to the right tool

1. Webcam Test

  • Webcam not found

  • Camera and microphone are blocked

  • No image from the webcam

  • The system check is stuck in a loop

2. Microphone Test

  • Camera and microphone are blocked

  • There is no sound in your mic

  • No sound from the microphone

  • Failed to capture the mic

  • Your microphone is muted

3. WebRTC Test

  • Failure "Streaming webcam and desktop"

  • Failure "Network connection"
