Proctoring Applications Overview
Constructor Proctor provides a flexible ecosystem of applications to support secure and reliable online exams. Depending on exam requirements, technical setup, and learner environment, different applications can be used either individually or in combination.
1. WebApp
What it is
A browser-based proctoring interface that runs in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Key characteristics

No installation required for learners.

Customizable: language, branding (logo, colors, font), feature toggles.

Runs directly in the browser.
When to use it
-
Learners cannot install software.
-
LMS allows iFrame embedding.
-
Flexible setup is acceptable and lockdown is not required.
2. Secure Browser
The Secure Browser provides a controlled testing environment with enhanced exam integrity. It extends the WebApp by adding lockdown features and bypassing browser limitations.
What it is
A downloadable desktop application (Windows, macOS) that launches the WebApp in a secure environment.
Key characteristics

Requires installation before the exam.

Enables lockdown features depending on selected security mode.

Bypasses browser limitations (e.g., iFrame restrictions).

Customizable similarly to WebApp.

Works in restricted environments (e.g., where Chrome is blocked).
When to use it

Exam integrity requirements are high.

LMS does not support embedded proctoring.

Learners are in restricted regions (e.g., China).

3. SDK
SDK is designed for institutions that already have their own applications. It allows Proctor functionality to be built directly into the customer’s platform.
What it is
A set of components embedded into the customer’s own application, enabling direct integration of Constructor Proctor functionality.
Key characteristics

Offers flexibility for customers with custom-built platforms.

Requires customer-side development.

WebApp interface is launched from within the host application.

Supports auxiliary camera as needed.
When to use it

Customer has their own application and development team.

UI or workflow must be embedded directly in their platform.

4. Mobile App
The Mobile App makes it possible for learners to take exams directly from their phones or tablets, provided that the exam is configured to allow mobile access.
What it is
A standalone mobile application that allows learners to take exams directly from their mobile devices – if the exam is configured to allow it.
Key characteristics

Native app (platform-specific).

Works only when mobile access is enabled in exam settings.

Device requirements must be met.
When to use it

Mobile access is permitted in exam setup.

Learners primarily use mobile devices.
